40 years of research into equine medicine and equestrian practices

Introduction and Foreword from Prof. Anton Fürst

Introduction:

After more than 40 years' experience of working with horses from many different angles, the question of transferring knowledge inevitably arises.... With this in mind, I have chosen to bring together the 20 best scientific publications that I have been lucky enough to publish as first author or co-author. I would like to thank all the people who taught me and who took the trouble to teach and correct me during this not always very simple task - A big thank you to them....

Foreword from Prof Anton Fürst:

I am particularly pleased to write a short foreword to this wonderful collection of excellent publications by Dr Stéphane Montavon. Stéphane Montavon is one of the great personalities in the equine field and has made an outstanding name for himself as a rider, profound horse expert, equine veterinarian and also as a scientist. He has also been a member of practically all the important commissions concerned with the welfare of horses and has played a very important role, usually chairing these commissions for several years. The veterinary commission of Swiss Equestrian and the Swiss Association for Equine Medicine are just two examples. In his function as head of the veterinary services of the Swiss Armed Forces, he was also regularly committed to the welfare of horses and was thus able to ensure the continued existence of the National Equestrian Center in Bern. Last but not least, he is a member of the Conseil et observatoire suisse de la filière du cheval (COFICHEV, today EQUI-SCOPE), which today provides an important basis for assessing the needs of the horse.
