In the wake of the COVID pandemic and the outbreak in 2021 of EHV1.4 in horses (a viral disease caused by herpes) at the major jumping competitions in Spain, it seemed interesting to find out whether body temperature in horses could be measured on a large scale using an IRT (Infra-Red Technology) thermography gun. The publication that can be downloaded below shows that this technique is interesting and that the values measured are fairly close to the temperatures traditionally measured rectally. However, these measurements are still not precise enough to measure the temperature on a large scale when horses arrive at large events.
